I wish I had more recipes on my site as easy as Mimosas!! I mean, how much simpler does a recipe get?? 😂
OK, for a recipe this simple, I do have “some” info to share with you to help your Mimosa making life! So read on for some tips on the best champagne for Mimosas – or sparkling wine or prosseco!
The better than champagne, the better the Mimosa. But that doesn’t mean you should use an expensive bottle of real champagne for your Mimosas!
Best champagne for Mimosas
The best champagne for Mimosas is real French champagne which is expensive. But a brut sparkling wine, Cava and dry prossecos are excellent alternatives.
I make Mimosas with sparkling wine because if I splurge on real Champagne I want to drink it straight! You’ll find that most bars and restaurants also use sparkling wine. Mimosas made with real Champagne are served at high end venues and are upwards of $25 a glass!
What is real French Champagne?
French Champagne is pricey because sparkling wines can only be called “champagne” if they are grown and produced in the Champagne region of France. This, combined with the lengthy production process, makes champagne rather expensive, starting at around $40 per bottle in Australia.
Famous brands include Moet and Chandon, Tattinger, Pipers, Veuve, Dom Perignon.
What does “Brut” mean?
“Brut” sparkling wines and champagnes means the champagne is dry rather than sweet, which is better for Mimosas.
What is Sparkling Wine?
Sparkling wine is a general term used for “champagne” that’s not made in Champagne! It’s just wine with bubbles added.
It’s totally acceptable – and deliciously drinkable – to make Mimosas with economical sparkling wine. But fresh orange juice is a must!
When to serve Mimosas
Mimosas make an appearance at most of our celebratory morning, brunch and lunch affairs. There’s no better way to elevate a brunch with family and friends than to start off with a round of Mimosas! It’s refreshing and suitably brunch-worthy with the addition of orange juice. It just lifts the mood and because it’s diluted so it’s not potent!
Christmas morning, birthdays, Mother’s Day, and generally just brunch with friends. It’s on point – and everybody loves them.
Plus, it’s an economical cocktail option because you can totally get away with using budget champagne – it was my party drink of choice all through uni!! – Nagi x

Life of Dozer
No champers for Dozer. But plenty of strawberries!! (Full of good-for-you anti oxidants!)
Helen Townes says
it’s even better if you add about a tablespoon of Grand Marnier – absolutely gorgeous, but you can’t have too many of them
Samantha Solomon says
Do you mean the orange juice has to be freshly squeezed? Or do you have a brand you like? Thanks
Nagi says
It doesn’t have to be – just make sure it’s 100% Orange juice and not one with additives 🙂 N x

Thanks so much they look amazing ❤️ Have a great Christmas!
Diane says
Nagi, try adding some Grand Mariner to the cocktail. It really takes it over the top!

A lifelong favourite for long Sunday brunches – definitely with no triple sec 🙂 ! I part champagne at 9.30 am, 2 parts out of three by 10 am – by 10 -.30 the orange juice can ‘legally’ disappear !!! Krug always has been my favourite champagne !!!

Just had to comment on the photo Nagi…Dozer is looking at those strawberries like he’s in love with them! Too Funny!!
Will be making your lemonade scones for Thanksgiving brekkie/brunch. 🙂

Hi Nagy. Normally I just follow your recipes, serve and wait for the “Yum” to come back to me from the family.
But this time I have to quibble – you’ve described our firm Christmas favourite, Buck’s Fizz. Sorry to say, Mimosas have a little Triple Sec in them.
Also yum, of course.
BTW the slow cooked lamb shank in red wine was just astonishingly good and is now on the ‘Nagy List’- the ones to keep doing over and again.

Hi Jim,
The Mimosa is a 50-50 split of juice to champagne.
Loving the idea of a bit of Triple Sec though!
